PNC in Climate Change and Curriculum Development
Promoting National Cohesion has a diversified experience in several sectors. However, the organization has specifically worked with youth in multiple thematic areas extensively across different parts of the country. PNC has been involved in curriculum development, particularly in areas where the provincial government either lack the capacity or have limited focus. PNC have contributed to curriculum development by introducing innovative pedagogical approaches, addressing gaps in the conventional educational system, and integrating specialized knowledge areas like human rights, environmental awareness, gender equality, and sustainable development.
PNC has worked on promotion of life skills amongst the youth in all provinces of Pakistan. It has created the curriculum on LSBE (Life Skills Based Education). Moreover, it has also developed a strategic working model for the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training (MoFE&PT) for inclusion of environment-related education material in all curriculum and textbooks at primary and middle level. This is being piloted in Punjab province and will be subsequently rolled out federally. PNC was engaged with the National Curriculum Council (NCC) during the process of development of Single National Curriculum. During this process, PNC ensured inclusion of a comprehensive understanding about the challenges facing the natural environment that supports us all and how to help preserve the environment, and fight climate change in the curriculum and textbooks.
PNC has also been actively engaged in policy advocacy on climate change in Pakistan. The management of PNC is involved in the draft development of National Sustainable Development Strategy (NSDS) and the Environment Climate Change Outlook (ECCO) Report for the Climate Change and Environment Division of Ministry of Climate Change, Government of Pakistan.
Thus, the cross cutting experience of PNC allows the organization to develop innovative and engaging
curriculum focusing on Climate Change.
